Human nature has proven that we love the latest and greatest. In the pursuit of fitness, health, and wellness, it's only natural to want to embrace the newest fitness trend filled with promises of a muscular physique, herculean strength, and the obligatory six-pack. Everyone wants to look like the genetically blessed 20-somethings on the covers of magazines, regardless of age, disposition, lifestyle, ability, and most importantly, work ethic.
Fitness entrepreneurs know this, and they are quick to tap into your impulsive side and take your money.
That's right, the same methodologies that make football players more explosive, gymnasts stronger, farmers better farmers, and turns bright-eyed boot camp boys and girls into physically capable and adaptable men and women, are still the most effective methodologies, today. It's just not a formula that is sexy and sellable.
While each of the dials in the formula can be turned up or down based on your individual goals, the following still applies, has always applied, and will continue to apply, until the end of time. You can't skip steps. Proper development demands dedication to the basics.
Learn to move your body: learn to move your body in the most basic and functional ways possible.
Start adding load: begin adding load (weight) to compound movements, safely and correctly, to get stronger.
Stay consistent: The most challenging of all the steps, but also the most necessary.
That's it. No, honestly, that's it.
This can be a long, deep discussion, but again, sticking to the basics, becoming stronger contributes to the following:
Building muscle
Increased metabolism
Decreased body fat
Sleep improvement
Mood stability
A better quality of life
Quite honestly, all of it can be summed up as "sucking less at life," "feeling confident," and "looking better naked."
Don't we all want that?
Expensive gym equipment is simply not necessary for anyone but perhaps the top .01% of elite athletes. Athletes who have years and years of foundational training under their belts and are looking for any and every edge possible on top of that foundation.
Most likely, this does not apply to you.
But, kettlebell training does. Kettlebells offer:
Strength training
Mobility improvement
Tremendous core strength
Fat loss
Skills attainment
Simplicity & efficiency
Improved daily life functions like getting up off the ground, lifting & carrying items, jumping into any activity without fear of injury, and enjoying a better quality of life
Because the kettlebell is not sexy. It's simple. Again, human nature combined with good ol' fashioned American marketing has conditioned us to believe getting fit is more complicated, requires a lot of expensive equipment or a hefty gym membership, and lots and lots of supplements. See the pattern? We are conditioned to believe we have to spend a lot of money to get fit - we don't and I can prove it.
